Save the Date for the 2023 Southeast Regional Conference

Mark your calendars to attend the next edition of the Southeast Regional Conference (SERC)! Hosted by the Georgia Chapter along with the South Carolina and North Carolina Chapter’s Executive Committees.

SERC will be returning to Atlanta on April 23-25, 2023. We will be opening our doors for three incredible days to connect and learn in the City in the Forest.

Presenting the knowledge and expertise of some of the profession’s leading voices and the conference will cover critical issues and opportunities surrounding Landscape Architecture. We hope to see you there!

I hope you all had a great May and are gearing up for a great summer! I’m not sure I’m entirely ready for the North Carolina heat and humidity, but I’ll just keep my sunscreen handy and my water bottle full!

May was a big month for me, not only did I get to see my parents, but I had the opportunity to finally meet many of you in person at our conference! Thank you to all our Sponsors, Exhibitors, and to each of you who attended. We can plan an event out in detail, but without your participation it can’t be a success. After a long delay due to the pandemic, NCASLA finally held our 2022 Conference on Landscape Architecture at the Hotel Ballast in Wilmington NC on May 19 – 21. After two virtual events, our return to an in-person conference was marked by record high attendance with 220 members and non-members present!

The NCAT Landscape Architecture Program successfully completed the academic year on May 14:

  • We graduated 7 new BSLAs.

  • Our seniors visited 9 firms and city departments to prepare for their job searches--thank you to all the NCASLA members who graciously hosted our students (see attached picture)

  • 5 of our 7 graduates have already accepted positions at firms or started their own businesses

After four years as NCSU LAEP Department Head, Meg Calkins, FASLA, FCELA, will step down at the end of the month to devote more time to her teaching and scholarship. Under Calkins’ leadership, department enrollments increased by approximately 50% and underrepresented minority student enrollment increased from 2% to 8%. She led the faculty through a successful accreditation visit, recruited a new Director of the Natural Learning Initiative, and facilitated a substantial increase in funded research. Gene Bressler will serve as Interim Head for one year while a search for a new Head is conducted.
