Licensure & State Advocacy Committee Update: July 2022
by Mike Askin, PLA, ASLA
On June 22 NCASLA will be hosting our State Advocacy Day event, which will be located on the portico of the NC legislative building. This event will be held between 12:00 -2:00 PM. As those that have participated in any of our past Advocacy days know that this is a great way of meeting your representatives and talking to them about our profession.
Since Advocacy day has not happened in a few years, I believe that it is important to have a good turnout from our members. Attending this event helps you and your professional peers keep the practice of Landscape architecture in the vocabulary of the State legislators and helps them understand what it is that we do. Looking ahead it is impossible to tell what the midterm elections will bring and how the redistricting will affect us as a profession, but it is always possible that the profession will be under scrutiny from our legislators and that the profession, with the help of our Lobbyist is ahead of anything that may arise.
North Carolina is growing and we still have people coming into the state at unprecedented rates. Keeping us a busy as we have ever been, it is a commitment to come to Advocacy day. One that your profession relies on. For it is the outcome of our actions that are helping people and industry decide to come to our state. Help keep it that way by coming out and advocating for what it is that you are and do.
