by Hollie Colony, PLA, ASLA
I hope you all have been enjoying the changing of the seasons. Internally, our Executive Committee is also preparing for some changes. Existing members will be rolling into new positions, and we will also be excitedly welcoming new members! Next month there will even be a new President.
I am very excited to welcome Josh Karrick who brings experience not only within our chapter as previous Mountain and Triangle Section Chairs, but also externally as President of the Kentucky ASLA Executive Committee. Welcome to Josh and all of our new Executive Committee members who will starting in November!
Over the last month, we attended Virtual Advocacy Day and have continued planning efforts on SERC 2023. We were excited to have two members attend the virtual event and have great opportunities to interact with our state representatives in the house and senate.
The SERC 2023 theme has been announced, Crossroads: Paths to Resilience. We hope to see you in Atlanta April 23-25. Calls for presentations will be coming out shortly as well as information about submitting for awards. Please keep an eye out for more information!
If you are interested in being nominated for Fellow in the future, or are eligible now and are contemplating starting this process, ASLA is hosting a webinar. They will discuss best practices on preparing nominations in hopes to increase transparency in the process. Panelists will include members of the Council of Fellows Executive Committee, Fellows Jury, and Chapter Fellows Committee. This webinar will be Thursday, October 27, 2 PM ET / 11 AM PT please contact us for the more information if you would like to attend!
Even though I ran unopposed, I want to thank you all for the opportunity to hold this position. I have had the chance to meet so many people, coordinate on various events, and learn from many of you. This year has been a good year for our chapter thanks to the effort of our volunteers and your support. While we did not meet all the goals we set at the beginning of my term, there has been progress, and for this I am grateful. I look forward to staying actively involved in the organization and am genuinely excited for us as a chapter and a profession.
