President’s Update: July 2021
by Courtney Landoll, PLA, LEED AP
Happy July! I hope you are all enjoying your summer and finding time to get out and enjoy life despite how busy we are as landscape architects. Your Executive Committee remains busy, however, having recently provided an LARE Review workshop, a sketch crawl, and a hike at the North Carolina Arboretum.
Currently, we are planning our NCASLA Awards and, believe it or not, our next conference. While we had intended for our 2022 Conference to be a Southeast Regional Conference hosted by the Georgia Chapter, the Southeast Regional Conference Committee recently voted to postpone our tri-state conference event to 2023. That is a decision that none of the members came to lightly, but out of necessity.
Not surprisingly, it turns out the hospitality industry is crazy busy right now! The search for an Executive Director came up with proposals well out of budget and we feared the same would be true for the venues. With less than a year to plan, it was going to be difficult to pull off the quality of event that we have all become accustomed to. As a result, NCASLA will host our own conference in 2022 and are currently looking at options to fulfill our existing contract with the Hotel Ballast in Wilmington. We had planned on being at the Hotel Ballast in 2020 and then 2021 when the pandemic hit. We will keep you posted as more details are confirmed.
