President's Update: December 2021

President’s Update: December 2021

by Hollie Colony, PLA, ASLA

Hello fellow landscape designers/architects/dreamers,

I am beyond excited to start this year off building on the momentum we have been building. Since it’s the holidays, and we are all in the middle of deadlines, last minute present buying, and not believing it’s already December, we are going keep this newsletter short. Just enough to end the year with some gratitude and a little FYI.

This momentum that I mentioned above would not be possible if it were not for the guidance provided by Courtney Landoll. Courtney brought professional and previous Executive Committee experience that has truly helped our organization grow and become more focused over the last year. I want to thank her for all she has done over the last year, and all of my questions she has answered including the ones I’ve asked after my training wheels were off. We are excited that she will continue to assist the Chapter in her role as Past President and be a mentor to our current and future Executive Committee members.

I would also like to thank Mike Askin, Rose Tanksley, and Sadie Walters for their efforts with Legislative Affairs, Mountain Section Chair, and Secretary respectively. Mike has been involved in the North Carolina Chapter for many years, and we have always appreciated his knowledge and guidance. Rose was very active and coordinated several events in the Mountain Section that were very successful. Sadie streamlined and brought some brevity to the duties of Secretary. We look forward to seeing them at future events!

Additionally, I’d like to welcome our new members: Zak Pierce as Secretary, Sharon Rhue, Lexi Chacalos, and Drake Fowler. Some of them are returning Executive Committee members, and we are excited to see their continued commitment to the profession and our Chapter.

We still have a vacancy for the Triad Section Chair and the Member-at-Large Communications position. We are always looking for people who have any interest in actively participating in the chapter so please reach out if you have any interest . Check out our Volunteer tab on the website!

Lastly, the Executive Committee will hold our Annual Retreat in January, so be on the look out for more updates.

I hope you have a great Holidays and a Happy New Year!
