President’s Update: April 2022
by Hollie Colony, PLA, ASLA
Happy World Landscape Architecture Month! I bet if we polled people on what they thought the most important day in the month of April is, the majority would say ‘Tax Day’, April 15. I also bet that if you asked a landscape architect the same question, they may try to convince you that last week of April is where it’s at! Annually, we celebrate Frederick Law Olmsted’s (FLO) birthday on April 26 and Arbor Day (typically celebrated on the last Friday of the month) so it’s a week filled with design, history, trees, and the environment! Does it get any better?
This April 26, we not only get to celebrate FLO’s birthday, but it’s the big 2-0-0! Fortunately, we don’t have to worry about finding a cake large enough to accommodate 200 candles, but I do hope you all are able to do something to celebrate. Not that we need another reason to bookmark April 26, but it is also the last day to register with the Advanced Rate for our conference in Wilmington. So, if there is a day to remember this month, it’s not that your taxes are due on April 15, it’s April 26!
If you find yourself posting thoughts on “What is landscape architecture?” or “What does landscape architecture mean to you?” or are at an Olmsted park or celebration, don’t forget to tag your posts with #WLAM2022 #Parks4AllPeople or #CelebrateOlmsted @olmsted200.
We have put out our call for Executive Committee Nominations. If you are interested, or know someone who may be interested, please go to the website and fill out the form. Nominations close April 30, 2022.
I hope to see you all next month in Wilmington at the conference and the Awards Gala. Come get your CEUs, network, and take some extra time to celebrate all those who won a NCASLA award in 2021 AND 2022!
