Hi NCASLA members! I am Kevin Barnes, your immediate Past-President. It has been my pleasure serving you this last year. As we close out 2020, I wanted to provide a brief summary of our organization's accomplishments.

Wow! It’s not 2030 yet? That was just one year?


EVENTS HELD

  • Negotiated, agreed upon, and signed Memorandum of Understanding for Southeast Regional Conference on Landscape Architecture (SERC) with South Carolina and Georgia Chapters. Georgia to host next conference in 2022.

  • Virtual Sketch Crawl – Week before 11 May 2020

  • Conducted inaugural Legislative Affairs Lunchtime Chat with Whitney Campbell Christensen (our Lobbyist) and Brian Starkey – 28 July 2020

MEMBERSHIP APPRECIATION

  • Nominated Kofi Boone and Matthew Langston to ASLA’s Council of Fellows and both were inducted.

  • Successfully completed firm takeover of NCASLA’s Instagram account during April and some of May to celebrate National ASLA Awareness Month

  • Introduced Member Spotlights on NCASLA’s Instagram account.

FUNDING REQUESTS PROVIDED

  • Funded NCA&T laptops. NC A&T needed $40,000 to fund student laptops. NCASLA contributed $2,500 toward their goal and helped fundraise an additional $21,100 from NCASLA members for a total of $23,600 from NCASLA members. The remaining funds were provided from ASLA members around the country.

  • Funded NCSU Spring 2020 lecture ($1800) and a Fall 2020 lecture ($1500), total $2,800.

  • Provided $1,000 at the request of NCUSU SASLA to fund students to go the ASLA Annual Conference. Given the conference was cancelled, the amount will be carried over to 2021 Conference in Nashville.
