The educational objective of the training is as follows:

§  Discuss the history of the NC Scenic Byways program, which allows motorists to experience a bit of the state's history, geography and breathtaking scenery while raising awareness for the protection and preservation of these treasures.

§  Discuss the process for designating new scenic byway routes by the N.C. Department of Transportation.

§  Describe three of our most interesting state byways (one from each NC region: the mountains, piedmont, and coast).

§  Compare the NC byways programs with scenic byway programs in other states.

§  Discuss the economic, environmental, and cultural benefits associated with scenic highways.

§  Provide byway traveler insights, such as the resources that are most commonly used to plan trips and the top experiences of byway travelers.

§  Describe how a Corridor Management Plan (CMP) developed by the communities along a scenic byway can outline how to protect and enhance the byway’s intrinsic qualities and character that define the byway corridor.

§  Provide an overview of the recent 2021 America’s Byways® Designations and next steps.

§  Provide an update on the new National Scenic Byways Program grant funding and how communities can learn more.
